Digital Fabrication, The Next Revolution

The Idea

I want to learn how to use and teach others how to use the latest in personal digital fabrication tools to create almost anything. I would be learning how to operate and produce objects using a personal 3D printer such as the Solidoodle and open source 3D modeling software like Google SketchUp .

The Plan

The majority of the funds would go to purchasing the latest portable 3D printer from Solidoodle. I have an extensive background in 3D modeling with SketchUp and would just need to learn how to bring the two together. Also if I run into any snags I have created an extensive network of people to help me such as my local FabLab and maker/hacker spaces. The funds would help me purchase a resources that I can then share with the local community endlessly and help them prepare for the next revolution, digital fabrication!

How will you share your learning plan with the community?

I would bring my new 3D printer and Laptop to classrooms to teach students and teachers about digital fabrication and 3D modeling. I would show them the basics of 3D modeling using Google SketchUp and then print them out on the 3D printer. A tutorial will also be posted on my website. Just Fab it!

This is the future! Every economist, educator, maker, politic, and average Joe that I have talked to agree! Go to thingiverse.com to see many things you can make with a 3D printer. Children need a technology like this to unleash creativity and usher in a new era of world abundance. Check out what the economist has to say: http://www.economist.com/node/21553017 . This is critical!
