Classroom Alive. An experiment in living learning.
1

The Idea

I want to learn how to re-invent my post-secondary education to be a living, independent, rigorous and practical whole. As well as how to design this individual path into a replicable model for others who want the same from their education. For more info visit: www.wix.com/thoughtslight/thisisit

The Plan

I will spend the next year researching and experimenting with creating a cohesive individual curriculum and a living model of independent education.
The steps.
1)Set specific research questions and goals for studies (topics, deadlines, projects).
2)Collect, organize, and design material (e.g. online courses, books) and sources (e.g skillshare.com) into 3.5 month courses of study, based on my research questions.
3)Research, formulate and implement structure that will create a productive learning environment (e.g. study groups, mentors, practical engagement).
3)Undertake study, integrating practical and theoretical components.
4)Share results and use fundings to update living model on the website.
Note Steps 3-4 are repeated cyclically.

How will you share your learning plan with the community?

All the plans for for my self designed curriculum and the living model will be available to anyone through the website. Funds will go to hosting open workshops/lectures from my research questions. This will help me engage the topic better and share knowledge for free with others who are interested.

Yes! Nice work sir. This is great to see and I like the possibility that your classroom might come alive at the Living Questions Research Symposium in Spring Valley, New York in September. www.threefold.org/research. I'd love to have you get in touch with me about it - Jordan (at) threefold.org.

I can't say enough bad things about this. It is outrageously lacking in content. You might as well define your goal as 'learning stuff', and your plan as 'doing things to learn stuff'. You are an impressive orator, but sadly, that is also your undoing; your scintillating rhetoric will be quenched in a thin and tepid broth of decadence and dissipation.

Dear epenn4, I would be lying if I said that it does not pain me for you to feel the need to be so vicious in your criticism. Tell me what good do you feel is being garnered by using phrases like "quenched in a tepid broth of decadence and dissipation"? That being said I hear your criticism. I agree that on this page there is not much content. Here I am rather laying out my intentions, When you have 750 characters, including spaces, you cannot layout the entire content of a year. That is why I provided a link (www.wix.com/thoughtslight/thisisit) to my website where there is a much more comprehensive picture of the content of Classroom Alive. If you have specific questions as to content as laid out on the website I would be glad to answer them. If you had advice/suggestion to the content you find on the website I would love to have them. I don't know why you felt you had to attack as opposed to offer constructive criticism, but I really ask that we try and move this forward in such a way that we both feel respected, for in the end that is what counts.

Wow. Inspiring. Love the idea of blazing a path that others can follow, and demonstrating that learning is not something that needs to be defined by large institutions (speaking as an educator who works in a large institution.)

Caleb, Today, people will be wasting lots of dollars (and frightening all the local animals & birds) by setting off countless fireworks, in order to light up the sky, albeit very briefly. Whereas you, my friend continue to amaze me by lighting up the world with your wonderful and thoughtful ideas and plans. You are terrific, Caleb.... and I love you! JAY
